Robby Burns Night or "Drank enought to eat Haggis yet?"

Michael does the "Address to the Haggis".

This is my good friend Michael. He plays in a band that does traditional Scottish music. He calls the group "Circling over Shannon". It is names after a Russian PM who came to Scottland for an official visit. I guess he got so drunk during the flight that the plane wouldn't land until they could wake him up..

January 25th is Robbie Burns day. Celebrated world wide this guy had an incredible influence on culture. If you don't know much about him then check it out on Wikipedia. After all everything you read on Wikipedia is true..

Here in Saskatoon our good friend Michael Huges and his lovely wife Tania hosted a Robbie Burns supper in preparation for an up coming trip a few of my friends are going to take to Scotland, Ireland and England.

The traditional supper included the piping (recorded) then the "Address to the Haggis" with the cutting of the Haggis.

Presenting "the Haggis"! Notice this version has been tamed down for us Canadians, not being served in the traditional sheep stomach.

I enjoyed the evening and the opportunity to taste this traditional dish; however not every one could finish the Haggis..... My excuse... "It was smiling at me, so I couldn't possibly eat it!".

So you still have time to get in on the action! If your in Saskatoon Tuesday the 25th of January, then make your way to Winston's Pub for some Haggis, Scotch Whiskey and traditional Scottish music..... or as Michael would say " Mak it whisstle eejit"

Saskatchewan is a very beautiful place to be. Even in the winter.... except for the extreme cold.
